ZAGAT

This SF institution with an iconic setting overlooking the Embarcadero is anchored by a central bar and an open kitchen turning out wood-fired New American small and large plates plus desserts such as housemade custard and French crullers; it may be noisy, but skilled mixologists and proximity to touristy destinations make it ideal for a nice date or to take out-of-town guests.

Stopped in for lunch with some friends. Afternoon cocktails and lunch, what can be better? The calamari with the avocado-cilantro salsa was awesome.

This was a great spot to grab lunch down by the piers. Cool modern/old diner combination. Windows all around for a light and airy feel. The menu had a nice collection of choices and the salads and omelettes we had were great.

Great location with a nice view. The service was fine, not spectacular. The food was, not to be redundant, fine. I don't drink, so there is a large part of the overall experience that I didn't partake of.read more

The food was good and the service super friendly and professional. The veggie burger was very good and the kids grill cheese was tasty and enough to probably feed a hungry adult. The coffee is also worth noting, it was delicious.read more

I believe this place is truly underrated! We picked this spot to have brunch on a Sunday morning after my cousin proposed to his now fiancé and had a group of 18 people. As you may know, it's hard to find reservations for brunch for a large party like this for brunch, especially in San Francisco. So when I came across this place, I said eff it and made reservations. We were running late of course, I called the restaurant and they said no worries and gave us a 30 minutes window. Once we got there we were seated right away at long tables by the entrance. I wish there were large party booth seatings but this was good even though it did feel like the two tables had separate conversations going. For some reason service did lag a bit when it came to ordering drinks and the men in our party found it faster to get drinks from the actual bar that was right behind our seating. The food was awesome though. I had the crab toast off their brunch menu. And the Mac and cheese was also bomb! Some of the girls ordered their salad and a pizza too. They said it was great!read more

The food was great. The service good. The atmosphere was very unique. A very "San Francisco " place. Noise level was high was the only problem.read more

Great deviled eggs and fried chicken, plus decent salads, pizza, and drinks make this a nice spot where Battery and Embarcadero come together. Outdoor sidewalk seating is sweet when the sun's out (though your server might visit you a little less often). On a recent visit the men's room needed some attention, but overall a solid place.read more

Went on 9/12 Thursday around 5:10pm, and loved our experience. We chose outside seating as it was a beautiful day, and I wish I could remember our servers name because he was PHENOMENAL. I got the wood fired margarita pizza, my partner got the burger and fries, and both were amazing. I would 100% come here again. Clean, friendly, considerate.read more

Classic SF restaurant that is near the pier and has since been renovated. I like how they can hold a private large party and reservation in the corner of the restaurant. The layout is like a diner, but my family was able to have the babies run around the corner area. Casual dining with good eats! The skirt steak was seasoned well and they were accommodating with just veggies as choice of sides instead of fries! Beet sauce and asparagus was the substitute and it was great! Pork chop was grilled and cooked nicely as well! Brussels sprouts were crisp as appetizer, Caesar salad was dressed up swell and trfries were addictive! They gave little calamari and wings were on the dry side. Fresh oysters - can't complain on that part. Thin beignets were ordered for dessert. Nicely puffed and fresh and dough to my liking. The creamy espresso dip was more preferred than the chocolate. Service was attentive. Convenient and contemporary.read more

Fog City has a strong legacy in the SF area and did not disappoint. Although it can be busy, our waiter recommended the fish tacos which were outstanding. With the freshest of ingredients, the fish were seasoned with a delectable blend of spices and topped with a lime, cilantro, guacamole and sauce that had my tastebuds tingling. They have a nice selection of wine and microbrews to complement dining selections. Our wait staff and hostess were extremely polite, welcoming and professional and we had a terrific experienceread more

After a 20+ year period since my last visit, I stopped here to show my wife where I first dined in SF. I initially came because of the Visa commercial, which divulges my age range! On-street parking was easier than expected. The decor and menu have changed, but we still had a wonderful lunch. Both of us follow keto, so I got the open-faced tuna melt “sandwich” on top of lettuce leaves instead of sourdough. My wife got the salmon salad. Both were excellent. In fact, the tuna salad was the best I’ve had ... by far! No canned tuna was used! All-in-all ... a wonderful first stop in San Francisco. And not a homeless person in sight!read more

The food that wasn't burnt tasted nice, but to be honest the pizza's shouldn't have been served in the condition they left the oven. $9 for fries?? I wouldn't waste your time. Overpriced and underwhelming. Edit 1. Waiter just came to clear our table of plates. Took our unfinished drinks too. What the hell is going on with this place. Edit 2. The price is not the price. In addition to taxes which is expected there's a 5% surcharge which is in tiny small print. Why is this not part of the damn price if they've bothered to add small printread more

Seen this place along the Embarcadero for years. It was used in the movie "So I Married an Axe Murderer". Finally tried it. Fantastic food! (Had the brisket and the pork chop). Very friendly server (thanks Brittney). Nice view of the bay. Nice atmosphere. Plan to come again. (Seven months later.) Back in the city for some fun. Had to come back to Fog City. Wasn't disappointed. Food still great. Even had Brittney serve us again, and she did a great job (thanks Brittney!) (Another three months) The pork chops are gone and so is Brittney. Bummer. But the baby back ribs were fantastic.read more

UPDATE: I heard it was renovated! I need to check it out soon. This is a memorable spot for a date for sure. Although, the decor inside this tin can doesn't scream sexy and intimate it is definitely a memorable spot for city goers or tourists just looking for something... different. The Jalapeño cornbread is pretty special. Not unique to SF menus but it's got great flavor and packs a little punch. Try it with the clam chowder and you'll be good to go for a starter. The food is simple but elegantly prepared and the service is upscale, so don't worry about it actually feeling like a diner. You'll be surprised by your experience once inside. This isn't a local SF hangout so if you don't mind a tourist or bridge & tunnel folk then grab a seat, but I recommend a reservation first.read more

The FOOD was really good. The place is in a great location and it's warm and inviting. Prices are NOT unreasonable and the menu has variety from crafted burgers to steak. Salads are amazing and appear to use local sources produce. This is a great place for working professionals, tourists, and families with children. I recommend for ambiance, location, service, food menu variety, price, and quality of FOOD.read more
